Two people, a man and a woman, standing inside a store or workshop with shelves of fabric and upholstery samples behind them. The man wears a gray suit, colorful tie, and a chain with a medallion. The woman wears glasses and a teal dress, with sandals. They are standing beside a green and patterned upholstered chair.

My Story

I have always loved anything creative. I can vividly remember trips to the local Singer Sewing Centre as a child, with my mother, to buy material for a new item of clothing. From deciding between the myriad of colours and prints on offer, to hearing the snip and rip of the fabric, it was always such a joy to experience the final fit of the dress or blouse. As years passed, I was able to create my own clothes and, later, furnishings for my own home.

I have always been looking for ways to express my creativity, whether it be decorating cakes for my family or redesigning the garden, so when an opportunity arose to attend an upholstery course, I jumped straight in.

Soon I was in danger of picking up any discarded chair from the roadside as the bug took hold, fuelled by my dislike of anything useful going to waste, and I became a regular student at my local upholstery workshop.

Whether it be inheriting an eye for colour from my mother, to a make it and mend attitude from my father, upholstery comes naturally to me. It was only in recent years that I discovered that my grandfather worked with Morris & Company as a Tapestry Weaver, and I’m sure my love of textiles is largely due to his influence.

Today, I am a graduate member of the Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers, the AMUSF, and regularly help teach students on leisure upholstery courses, in addition to taking on my own commissions.
